The honour is not only a personal achievement but a source of shared pride for the whole SZINORG group.
In his address, László Papp said that the day paid particular tribute to those citizens of Debrecen "who served the city with conviction, enthusiasm, commitment and often without fear."

A career spent building Debrecen
Gyula Szűcs graduated in civil engineering from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Budapest University of Technology, and began his career in Debrecen in 1980. He started as a technical trainee at HUNÉP's predecessor and moved quickly into management: first as site manager, later as deputy head of department. From the change of regime until 2018 he led the company as Chairman and CEO, playing a significant part in delivering the city's landmark buildings.
He continues to hold a key place in the region's business and professional life as Chairman and CEO of Szinorg Universal Zrt. and Chairman of the Board of HUNÉP Zrt.

Recognition for an exemplary body of work
The honorary citizenship is not the first recognition of his career. He held senior positions at the Hajdú-Bihar County Chamber of Commerce and Industry across four terms. In 2004, in recognition of his work, he received the Chamber's highest distinction, the Sesztina Award. The National Federation of Hungarian Building Contractors (ÉVOSZ) awarded him the Lechner Ödön Prize in 2014.
His commitment, his life's work, his professional rigour and his love of and loyalty to Debrecen are an inspiring example to us all.
