Barely more than 100 days after the laying of the foundation stone, the new unit of Swiss company Sensirion's Debrecen manufacturing base is structurally complete.

In the spirit of sustainability it will not use a single cubic metre of gas, relying instead on a heat pump and a solar PV system.

At the topping-out ceremony, Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa said we are in the middle of a real success story, and that the first 100 Debrecen employees hired have already proved themselves.

"Debrecen's educational institutions and its workforce have shown that, while Sensirion may have a plant and operations in Switzerland, the Debrecen unit is in no way inferior to the Swiss operation or the Swiss site — and Sensirion's management decided, as we can now see for ourselves, to expand its plant in Debrecen," Lajos Barcsa emphasised.

The new high-tech hall, worth close to HUF 4.5 billion, is financed and built by SZINORG and the Xanga group. As with the first production hall, Sensirion has again signed a long-term lease.

"This development fits our Group's strategy very well, because we are always glad to develop for a partner like Sensirion, and will be in future too. Our cooperation over the past few years has been marked by fair dealing, which I think can serve as an example," emphasised Gyula Szűcs, Chairman and CEO of Szinorg Universal Zrt.

The project is progressing to plan. The contractor expects to hand over the 7,000 square metre production hall and logistics centre in September.

"Sensirion represents exactly the industry we always talk about: the kind of innovative manufacturing business with modern technology and high added value whose investment or arrival we hope for," said István Herdon, Chairman and CEO of the Xanga group.

While the Debrecen plant's revenue was HUF 1.5 billion in 2022, last year it reached HUF 6 billion. Managing Director László Ábrahám emphasised that the company is preparing for the future and has long-term plans in the city.

"We will grow our current headcount of around one hundred to two hundred, and over a longer period possibly beyond three hundred. We are already taking the first step towards that today. In the coming days we will take on a further ten colleagues, which the company needs to meet increased production demand," said László Ábrahám.

At the ceremony, in place of the traditional topping-out wreath, an enlarged 3D-printed microsensor was symbolically raised to the highest point of the new building.
